The most successful long-term relationships are those that are based on friendship. True friendship is the strongest relationship of all, and is the fundamental ingredient of every truly successful marriage. It's good to note that "Openness and transparency are marks of true friendship," friends are open and honest with each other and this sets a good foundation for courtship and marriage.
Courtship affords two people an opportunity to study at close range the attitudes, conduct and true worth of their friendship. It’s a relationship with a mission; with accountability and intentionality to progress into marriage.
I love this scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:4 so much, especially in context of discussing friendship and courtship. The New Living Translation says it like this:
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
Marry your friend y’all! Because when love shakes, true friendship will stand the test of time.
